We are part of an epic story. From Adam and Eve as they walked with God, to the charged anticipation of the Israelites as they prepared to enter the promised land; from the life, death and resurrection of Jesus to the birth of the Church and beyond, God's plan for his people remains constant. 'Life in the big Story' is a call to find our place in God's story. It is a call to hear his heartbeat and let it change our own. Without knowing him, without seeing his heart as it beats on every page from Genesis to Revelation, we will never understand what we are called to be. But when we do, we will catch a glimpse of something bigger than the lives we settle for. We will be drawn to delve deeper into God's Word, discovering for ourselves the joy of knowing the God who calls us his own. As the people of a Holy Lord, we will be challenged to live lives worthy of his name.
Ann Holmes seems an unlikely candidate for revelation. A sixteen-year-old runaway, she is an itinerant mushroom picker who lives in a tent. Her past has been hardscrabble. Then one November afternoon, in the foggy woods of North Fork, Washington, the Virgin comes to her, clear as day. Is this delusion, a product of her occasional drug use, or a true calling to God? Gradually word spreads, and thousands converge upon the already troubled town. For Tom Cross, an embittered logger who's been out of work since his son was paralysed in a terrible accident, the possibility that Ann's visions are real offers a last chance for him and his son. As Father Collins searches both his own soul and Ann's; as Carolyn struggles with her less than admirable intentions; as Tom alternates between despair and hope; Our Lady of the Forest combines suspense, grit and humour in a story of faith at a contemporary crossroad.
The purpose of this book is to celebrate the transformative power of belly dance. The contributors have opened their lives and hearts to share their passion. Their stories of healing, compassion, joy, community, connection, and self-expression await you. As the idea for this book began to take shape, I placed an open call to belly dancers all over the world to submit essays for this book. The only guideline was that submissions should share how belly dance has transformed and enriched their lives. I hope that you will appreciate the courage of those who choose to dance and who have shared their stories. They have done so because they, too, believe in the transformative power of belly dance!
Derek Gunderson is a pianist in the last year of a degree at a conservatorium of music. He is a fine pianist, coasting toward a career in music. It hardly matters to Derek when so many aspects of his life are so well taken care of. Within a space of a couple of days, things fall apart for Derek - an important performance is a disaster, Jocasta announces she is involved with someone else, his ex-girlfriend starts seein...
